Brian,
dont just fob the idea of....elaborate on why you think the team idea wouldnt work.
From my perspective its a prevention rather than cure. if we're hanging out in the paddock sharing tools, stories and beers we're much more likely to take the time to understand what the other guy is up to....and be able to make smarter on track decisions regarding other classes.
Heres a list of problems we've noted that racing together in a more congenial environment could help 1 "the slow fords are a pain in the ass": team mates are more likely to help these guys with setup and track tips 2 "they dont understand our racing": we dont communicate other than at driver meetings so how would they. 3 "a ford broke up our group": see above
The driver liaison idea is good compared to what we have. however its just more bureacuracy and frankly bureacracy has f*ck all chance of resolving these issues. If it did then we wouldnt all spend endless hours moaning and b*tching on all the forums about our various pet peeves.
Ian...stepping of his soapbox!

Is fob an Irish expression? Don't know what it means. Sorta like pregant doging. I guess I don't see the connection between forming teams and resolving the driving issues. Besides, a major benefit about auto racing is that it doesn't take a team, or relying on others to play. As someone else mentioned, the team thing could cause other problems like blocking etc. I agree with you about the moaning. The key to dealing with these issues is to learn how to take advantage of them. Just ask Blake, he loves the traffic. Let's face it, racing in SF region is difficult enough without creating more complications.

Dave FF50 - thanks for providing the link and insight to 'the rest of the world'. Some interesting reading....
Additional thoughts: One way or another, if we don't try something, it is guaranteed that we won't succeed. A possibility for driver liaisons would be driver's school instructors. IF they were interested...
It isn't too early to ask for ideas for some type of group 4 get-together during the winter. Depending on the venue, we might be able to discuss this issue and any others deemed appropriate.

<<Munching on a Rice cake while I type>>
Nice to see some spirited discussion going on here!
I had a conversation with Blake at the Regional Finali at Laguna and can tell you that things are afoot that play right into the discussion about "class represenatives" in the very near future.
There is also talk of a Formula Car only Test day at Thunderhill. Maybe we could use this as a FORUM for the faster Ford guys (and the faster Vee Guys) to talk to the slower guys about car set up, lines, on track ettiquette et al. The date for this day is not yet set (Blake?). Anyway the idea isn't so much a DRIVER'S SCHOOL as DRIVER'S POST GRADUATE STUDY.
When my young friend Al and I went to driver's school it was spread over FOUR WEEKENDS, TWO WITH FULL TRACK TIME. Nowadays people are ground through in a single weekend so how can we NOT expect them to miss something?
This is a COMMUNITY and it is up to US to police it, nurture it and help it prosper.

Many times a protest ends up as a no contest or a no finding, because either there is a lack of evidence or collaboration. I'd venture a guess that the first driver response to a driver's rep visit would be a denial and a resulting stalemate. But it would be worth trying, especially with a senior driver acting as the representative and facilitator.

Guys and Gals, the Special Test Day @ Thill is May 15th (tentative!). $150 all day, San Fran region members only and only these select classes: SFR, FF, CF, FV. I think we should structure it as grp 1 SFR, grp 2 Fords, grp 3 Vees, if we get a big enough turn out. I love the idea of a DRIVER'S POST GRADUATE STUDY. Sounds so much better than bone head english. The SF Board has designated 5 groups as "the up and coming" or "place to be". Group 4 has 2 grps; Fords and Vees. The others are Spec Miata (duh); ITE & ITX, and SFR. more goods news later, dave

SFR? Do you mean spec fords? If so, when did they become a formula car?

Quinny
They are Formula cars by act of Congress...it was attached to a spending bill along with special tax dispensation for Ostrich farmers and Rubber-soled Dog Polishers.
I am thinking of ordering up a parcel of "If you can't see your wheels you aren't really racing" bumper stickers. If I do who will help me sneak into every SPEC MIATA pit in the paddock and stick one on the rear bumper?
