I don't know why they're doing that. That 5 mile course is terrible. The 2 mile track is fun. It's slow and technical. The 3 mile track is fun. It's fast and flowy. But connecting the two.... It's like putting Sears Point next to Laguna and connecting them with an awkward access road. It's terrible. The only appeal is that it's so d**n long you only get 3 or 4 shots at a qualifying lap in a session so it really puts a premium on getting your head out of your butt early.

There's a new short cut they made last year that bypasses the tight 3 or 4 turns just before the straight. It makes the west course much better for the bigger race cars. The transition on and off the west course is still a bit iffy. Qualifying is just like Road America, you have to strike quickly but Mid Ohio will be like that as well.
