I didn't get to attend the event but TRIED to watch it on TV.
From those who went, was it any better in person than on the tube? I mean the course was hard to follow, looked like a concrete tunnel and was downright confusing because of all the crap on the streets.
Any opinions?

OK, here is the down low on the event. We arrived around 7 on Friday morning and they were supposed to let us in at 7:15, but due to the fact that we were in the heart of Silicon Valley nothing was working. No scanners and when they got them they did not work, so they reverted to the old process of tearing tickets. I have to admit it wasn't as bad as some thought it was as we got in around 8 and didn't miss any action because no cars got on the track until 12:30 only four hours behind schedule. Saturday was better but the crowd offset the good and the crowd on Sunday made moving around impossible.
We were going pass a set of grand stands and I mentioned that whoever got these seats were screwed. They had been set back around 100 feet from the track and were along the main straight where you got a glimpse of the cars as they went by at over 150 mph. I was then advised those were our seats.
The bridge from there was too small for the amount of traffic and the other bridge wasn't up on the back side until Saturday.
The course was good for follow the leader and we determined that there was only one place to pass if you set it up properly at turn 10. This was where Legge passed for the lead with a little help.
All the negatives aside, I have to admit it wasn't too bad for a first year try. The Toyota Atlantics, Historic Nascars and drifters were in the convention center. The Trans Ams were in an Air conditioned tent. The Champ Cars were under the freeway by themselves.
Trying to watch the race without a seat is a losing cause and those with seats had views from closed circuit.
The best was we found bathrooms that few people knew about. They were both inside and air conditioned.
