Folks,
the car's ready and the bags are packed to take Gavin to drivers school. Neither of us have ever been to drivers school (I got a waiver), so what should we be expecting? I'd love to hear any words of wisdom, advice or tips.

Just make sure the car is bullet proof and track ready and have Gavin prefit to the car and belts, before you leave for the track. There's no time for working on the car between sessions and lost track time could lead to school failure. Expect very quick turnaround time. With only a couple of groups the pace will be hetic. Have Gavin make all the talk sessions and you do the car stuff. Good luck. Finally, don't believe a single think Ronnie says.

Brian gave very good advise. Make sure the car is ready. Gavin will be busy so you will have to make sure you do everything else and take the load off him about the car and anything else that might take his attention away from driving and the instructor.

I agree with Brian, excellent advice. One item that Brian didn't mention was knowing the rules. In the past, part of the driver evaluation was knowledge of the GCR/Supps. No test, but I suppose the point was that if you were borderline, it might swing things in your favor. The issue that comes immediately to mind was a FV driver showing up for the first session, ready to go on-track WITHOUT arm restraints. Luckily the grid crew had a spare set to lend to the driver; he had to buy a set somewhere because he didn't have any! One other point that may or may not be obvious is the potential for rain; from a previous post, I think you have the tires, but what about visibility through the helmet visor? Rain-X; antifog... Good luck! -Jim

Also, tell him someone else worked on the car. You wouldn't want him worrying about his mechanic... ;-)
Tell him to have fun for me.

Loads of track time to look forward to! It was wild, fast, a little scarey at times (only when I left the track outside turn one) but was one of the funniest time I've ever had. At the end of the weekend, my hips hurt, my arms were sore and I was begging to do it again! ;D
But the best time I had was riding with Brian (at the end of the first day) around Thunderhill in my wifes GMC Envoy! Believe me when I say this; That f@cker can drive anything fast! Thank you Brian.
Hey Gavin! It's a great track with loads of run off, drive clean, have fun and leave with an SCCA License!
