Heard both trannies were the "hot setup". What do you all think.

Long box, long box, long box. I ran with Blake and Dick in January, I had my long box in, pretty sure they were both on short boxes. I had absolutely no brakes in my car, which caused all kinds of problems, but when we would hit the start finish line, we'd all be dead even, by turn 3 into the infield I would have 15 to 20 cars on both Blake and Dick. The national guys all (I think) run longs. Blake was doing high 2:04s, low 2:05s at the regional with his short box, Colin, Mark Edwards and Charlie Turner will be doing 2"01s through 2:03s, and I'm pretty sure you'll need that long box once you get on the banks, or you're gonna have to draft for all you're worth to stay with them (or... drive like a mutha in the infield!) .

I always get confused - does the long box have a different final drive or longer third or both?

We're talking about the final drive ratio. 4.375 vs. 4.125. Any third could apply.
Colin ran a short box and while he gave up some in the oval, he says he more than made up for it in the infield.
With Laguna, a short box track, only a couple of weeks before, I'd like to not change the box too much. I will have made 4 tranny swaps before, during and after my cross country trek.
