Leroy Coppedge won the national becoming the first FV racer to earn the $400 award from VW of America. When added to the two free tires from Hoosiers, makes the win worth nearly $700. He battled 60mph winds and a tough field to the victory. His reamining challenge was to overcome snow in the Cascades to get home. I'm sure he made it.
Other finishers were 2. McCarthy, 3 Andrade, 4 Turner, 5 Manthe.

Well done Leroy!!
We really are spoiled this year. THere is now an actual purse to be won at nationals while we have the FCM cup with great contingencies... what will we complain about now ?!?

VW of America through SCCA gives $400 1st, $200 2nd and $100 3rd, if you plan on running I suggest you sign up.
Saturday was Warm 65+, blue skies and very pleasant. Sunday was cold and windy.
I hope Leroy posts his video, Don's didn't make it due to technical problems.

I did battle rain and snow and ice a good part of the way home but I finally made it to The Dalles today at 1:30. I spent Monday in Fresno. Brian, I hadn't thought about the Willow race being the 1st national after VW's offer went public, but I suppose it was--Yahoo! Bruce, unfortunately, Cal Club's ability to get 40 minutes ahead of schedule on Sunday messed up my chance of video. I was getting ready to put in fuel before I set up the video system when Donna Andrade said they'd announced first call for the race. I wasn't even in my driver's gear yet, so I had to hustle to make pregrid so I'm sorry to say I didn't get any video. Ian, thank you. Maybe all I needed to beat those two guys was the incentive, heh? I think it's extraordinarily generous of VW to do this for FV. Hopefully there will be more than five national drivers at the T-Hill double to race for the $1,400 being offered.

Leroy,
again, you deserve the win based on pure effort alone, never mind driver skill. And to win against such good drivers has to be a good feeling!

it went okay, there was only one other ford so i spent the weekend working on setup, and trying some semi-radical changes with the car. it was fairly responsive which was good, but mainly i just figured i'd save the new rubber i purchased for t-hill. (at $800/set, id rather use them when theres a battle to be had) i was able to stay on ed's tail through the first half of the race, and even on old tires the car was good enough to flat turn 9, so i thought i might have something for him if i could be there at the end, but he made a move on a fantastically slow dsr at the top of the hill and scraped me off. t-hill will be a battle, so it was good to get some points, as my budget is stretched so d**n thin this year i might be done racing until topeka after thunderhill.
