Gee Blake, talk with Mark, couldn't I do something easier, like wrestle a bear, something like that? I agree, I have the action to talk with everyone down here, that's mine.
Don't feel like we can't go to Thunderhill, I realizethe difference in tow time, but don't feel like we have to limit ourselves (heck, we can hold one of the CalClub races at PIR, that will even things out).

I think the FF/CF lads would welcome a Challenge series, just don't know how many will tow south for those legs. For that matter, only Garey Guzman is towing north with any regularity. 2 years ago we had 5 SFR Fords at the Pumplkin Run, last year ony 3. Need more guys running to make it a challenge.

Talk it up to them Greg! You can do it!
The more we get out the merrier!
Geoff it would be interesting to see if the distance to tow to Thunderhill would be an issue for any of the Vee guys from your neck of the woods, I still like the idea of having all track adjacent to I5...but that is the T-Shirt designer in me!
Now all we need is for RRP to get done!

The North/South shootout would be great. I have, and will continue the long haul to race in Nocal. Full fields gives newer racer the opportunity to race with other Vees. I would love to have as many Vee's out there as possible! Buttonwillow is a "decent" middle spot in the state, but Laguna may attract a larger crowd. As for the racing at Fontana on Feb. 5-6, yes the run group was less than ideal, but the track does afford ample room to pass. Ample room does not always mean that once the door is seemingly open it will stay open, sorry Geoff, but in general, it seemed to be ok. As for the North/South shootout, I would hope that the need for good racing will inspire others to participate.

I am moving forward on this project. As it stands right now this will be a four race shootout. Two races run in Northern California at Laguna Seca at the double regional September 30 through Oct 1/2. The second half will be in southern Califoronia at Button Willow Raceway Park November 19 and 20. The reason for these two dates is because we do not want too much time to separate the two races otherwise the enthusasim will die down. We have to have it at the end of the year to make sure we do not inferfere with regional championships and the runoffs. The run group will be group four (FF,FV, F500) in northern CA and FF and FV in southern CA. Both weekends will have two races but the races down in southern CA will use the same format we used at the 40th anniversary FV birthday party race! At this point I do not know if Ca Club will give me the track time on that weekend so I need a commitment from the Vee and Ford community on who thinks they will be going. 10 vees from the north, 10 vees from the south, and 15 FFs would really get their attention.

I just sold my Crossle to buy a FV. I am a CalClub and VARA member. VARA has up to 40 Formula Fords in it. Half of those are Club Fords (aka Spec Fords). There is a similar number of FVs and half of those are the more modern types. Almost everyone is an ex-CalClub driver. If you want numbers, you had better get VARA involved somehow.

who are the movers and shakers in VARA? Do you know them, if so can you contact them? If not give me there name and I will call them, e-mail, send them smoke signals, whatever to get them involved. We could have used there support during the 40th anniversary Birthday Party Race. As it was we had 40 cars but 60 would have been better. Nothing will happen unless we have big numbers.

Craig Hibbard is the President and FF driver. All the officers names are out on the VARA site at vararacing.com. I will mention this to those that I know. Of course, I would like to drive in this thing to, so someone has to sell me a FV!

Blake (and all); The VARA site is: www.vararacing.com/Overall1.htmlThat's someplace to start FYI: I just checked the Race Results for VARA's first event of the season, they had 12 Formula Vees running in three differant catagories (FV1, FV2, FVX). I like the sound of "FVX", makes me feel like Speed Racer's missing brother!

Blake,
it might be worthwhile giving Rob at FormulaCarMag a call. He's a big fan of the east-west challenge the Vee and Fords run back east. I'm sure he'd put a mention of the north-south challenge in the mag
call me if you need his details

Ian, you are stealing my thunder! I have had preliminary talks with Rob and I am working on sponsorship from him and coverage of the series by FORMULACAR magazine.

And... I don't want to talk out of turn, but... there is a private individual that may be putting up prize money for this series. I'm working on it, don't want to give up details until I've put this together, but, looks like it will be a little bit to make things more interesting.

At this time I plan on running the northern portion, but I have reservations about doing the southern end. Mostly economical, but a cloud of dust and the pimple on the track are also considerations.

Ah c'mon Bruce! You'll have a "Home Track Advantage" over the rest of us!
