Only if they run on the pimple side of the course. I have no idea what is on the east side of the tower. I have to say it could be fun. Still haven't decided if I will go down to Buttonwillow.

Hi guys... To get this laid out in the open, I am totally behind this North-South Shootout program with FormulaCar Magazine. This kind of program is exactly what I need to cover 'regional' racing. I can focus on one program and give coverage to two different regions...it's perfect. Get this thing rolling and let's get some dates locked in so that I can put them in the next issue of the mag. I'll be speaking with Blake soon to discuss other ways that I support the program. Take care, Rob Howden Editor / Publisher FormulaCar Magazine www.formulacarmag.com

It's been pretty quiet in regards to the North / South Challenge..... I think it's great that we will get some coverage on this, but I'd like to plan at least one trip down south to Buttonwillow. It was a blast when I was competing on two wheels, so l would like to plan a Buttonwillow trip as well. Are there any dates scheduled yet?

I just spoke to PAt Kniep, President of VARA. He is very interested in this project. He would like to talk to the principles immediately (Mr. Howden, Mr. Tatum).

What is the latest on the shootout? Is it a go?

It is dead. We can not get 10 FVs to enter regional races up north, there is no way we are going to get 10 FVs to go down south. Sorry. Maybe we can get something going for the races in February at Fontana.

IN case people were still iinterested in this. One of the Cal-club FF driver got Cal-club to make a special small bore formula car run group for their regional race 10-29 and 10-30 at ButtonWillow. I know it is not a complete north-south shootout but at least the "south has risin!"

Blake.... Make this one work! Let's start it off. I'll pledge coverage of this race in a future FormulaCar Magazine issue. Let's add in a North race and we're done! Just pick one that a bunch of your guys are going to and make it a reality. We're launching a new website next week that can help publicize it. www.eformulacarnews.comCall me...905-271-3236. RH - FCM

While I realize for the guys up North that it's not a big deal, we have a firm commitment from 5 vee drivers for the Pumpkin Run on 10/29 and 10/30. For us, that is a pretty big deal. We trying to get some of the National guys out to add to the numbers, but I don't expect much success there.
Like Blake, I haven't given up on the idea of the North/South challenge, I'd live to see it happen at some point, just to show everyone we can do it.

Hi Guys, I was the Cal Club FF driver who got the Small Bore run group for our final Regional at BRP. Although it didn't turn out as big as I'd hoped, it was a start.
Although you guys have great numbers up there, the key for us in Cal club is to organize ALL the small bore guys - FF, CF, FV and F500. Geoff helped a lot with getting some FV guys out but with only 14 and 12 starters for each race, it will take a more organized effort to get this run group again for 2006.
If you guys want to try this, I will do everything I can to help support it. Probably the best opportunities will be the first two National races down here (Jan 27-29 and Feb 25-26) and maybe July at Thill.
Thanks to Greg Mercurio, Seth Morgan (and John) and Tony Jimenez for making the trip down for the Pumpkin Run. We just need to get Greg back from "the dark side" !!

Message from the Dark Side:
The RF94 conversion continues, the chassis is modified to accept the 1600, the header tubes and stuff are sitting waiting for me to get off my butt to fab. The LD20's and discs have been replaced with LD19's and discs, and the wiring and assorted minor stuff is done. It will be ready for Racing Drivers School, and that's a good time to sort it out.
As to the N/S Challenge, it would be nice to run with y'all but towing down to Buttonwillow is a small pain, and towing to California Speedway is a roayl pain (from Vacaville) 4.5 hours to Bwillow, and 8.5 hours to CS. At least the overlap in schedules is minor this year.
2006 Pumpkin Run will be at CS. Don't think that's doable for me anyway. 2005 was a blast to watch, wish I coulda run, but Seth and Tony did their parts to uphold the honor of the Region. Possibly may FC at CS at the end of the month.
Ciao

Well, it looks like this isn't as popular a topic as it was last year. Are all you NorCal guys bundled up in front of a fire waiting for the sun to come back? ;-)
You must have got a hold of Qualifying times for the last National at CS where a vastly improving Cal Club driver was on pole! I don't blame you for making excuses!
If that wasn't enough smack to get some action going here, I don't know what will work!
BTW, Cal Club only got 2 dates at CS so the Pumpkin Run is back at BRP, the same weekend as your series final and RDC enduro.

Garey, I think the interest is there at least on my part, I am just lacking the time or the car right now. I hear Dick Gordon will be making his way to CS this weekend in his vee to race with his nephew. But do not lose faith you are doing the right thing. I do not know what everyne else's excuse is but I had a great time down at CS last year and I still hold out hope that we will get some of our people down there.

Any one who hasn't run at California Speedway is missing a great experience. The facility is first rate and the track is fun and pretty safe. It's become one of my annual places to run.
