Does anybody else (besides me) feel the changes to the track take away some of the benefits of precision driving? With the extra pavment esp @ T11- T12, one can really screw up and still turn a decent lap. If fact, it seems to me, that straight lining T12 is the accepted line now. I would like to see bigger bumps that would really upset the car and DECREASE one's speed if they go off there. I do like the new pit entrance. Much safer. my 2 cents dave

Dave,
I couldnt agree more. The extra runoff between 14 and 15 makes it too easy as well. I wonder why they made the changes given both had adequate runoff

It is my understanding that if a competitor uses the extra areas, those with the cross painted lines, it will be considered a off track excursion and they will receive a black flag response. This was in response to the huge holes that were dug on the ends and outside edges of the exisiting curbs. Seems that some classes, i.e. SS and SRF were consistently using the extra area and causing the holes. Repeated requests, warnings and cajoling did not result in the elimination of the dangerous holes. I was one of the folks that complained to Dave Vodden and the safety stewards about the holes. Dave did all he could with filling and refilling but they couldn't stop them. Hence the paving. As much as we try to be precise, stuff happens and you drop a wheel. In one of our formula cars, if you dropped a wheel into one of these holes you received at the very least, a wild ride, maybe a damaged wheel and possible contact if the impact with the hole rotated you across the track.

Brian As I understand it, you can put two wheels "off" or on the new pavement/paint and not get a black flag. They will only show the black flag if ALL four wheels are "off". Being able to put just two wheels on the "berms" is a SPEED advantage. A precise driver can now place his/her wheels 2 feet further into the apex. An imprecise driver will try and to place his/her wheels there, but may overdrive the "new" apex and be onto the paint instead of into a hole. But there is very little penalty in that, unless you call a black flag a rough "off". The old armco @ Sears right next to the track always got my attention. It said "Don't F***Up here or you will pay!" I feel it takes more courage to aim for the apex if your life depends on it. I'm just bummed they closed off the exit driver's right into the back paddock from T13. I was working on a fast line to bypass T14-T15 by exiting the track after T13 and whipping thru the paddock, going by pregrid, and reentering the track in the hot pits and heading to T1.... happy holidays-remember to keep out of "Harm's" way!LOL LOL

One of the main reasons for the runoff, was to make the track safer for Motorcycles. Dave Vodden tried several fixes and none of them worked, the pavement has been the best solution so far. If you want rocks and holes the pavement can go, if you want a safer track for everyone then you will have to deal with the pavement.
