I received this memo (dated 12-24-07) from Peter Nosler and felt I needed to share it with all of you. The old and new Mazdas refered to are FM and pro FM, I believe.

"It’s a bit early for the start of the season email but there is some incorrect information floating about and needs immediate correction.
As of this moment Race Group #4 remains as last year: FF, CF, and FV
You many have noticed at the Laguna race at the end of this season there were a number of new and old Mazda cars, mostly pitted around World Speed that ran in group #2. They were not entirely a happy addition to the group. Some were definitely rude racers and many of the slower cars in the group complained.
This group of some 25 cars in two Mazda classes have been running regularly at Russell school events. However, that is no longer available to them and they are looking to run somewhere else. Telo Steward, a really great guy and a knowledgeable SCCA racer himself and the owner of World Speed, has approached the club about their running with us. Ideally they would like their own run group. This is just not seem possible, even with some significant dollars being offered, as it really disrupts our club racing and is far a field from our club mission. However, they are all SCCA members and have the right to join our events.
The bottom line of our current discussions are that we can make no accommodations to them as a group but welcome their joining our racing program provided they enter on our terms. That is: each entrant will be treated just like any other entrant and the rude behavior of any of them will not be tolerated.
Should they decide to enter some of our events, and the emphasis is on should as they have made no definite indication of just what they plan to do next year, we will have to look at the make up of run group #2 should the entries exceed the GCR allowable number of should speed differences dictate some sort of change. This has been going on for years as classes grow and shrink and while few folks like change it will, on occasion, be unavoidable. The slowest class in group #2 is FC and moving them to group #4 might be necessary as an example of such necessary changes.
I have had most of the conversations with Telo and as a board member I have been even handed and while I have not painted a very desirable picture to him regarding their entering our races I have no real justification at this point in telling them to stay away. However, as an individual member of this fine organization I think they represent an approach to racing that is inconsistent with who we are and what we expect as SCCA racing.
I’ll let you know as I learn of any further developments.
Peter"
