By way of introduction, I moved out here to the left coast from PA last December. Have been lurking on the Formula Vee and Left Coast Formula Car Board because I'm interested in running in Formula Vee. I auto-crossed for seven years with the Appalachian Sports Car Club and was in the process of building an 86 Scirocco to do Time Trials when I took a job in Chico - necessitating the move. Sold the Scirocco and moved west. Have also done a PDX at Roebling Roads and most recently did the PDX at Thunderhill in July.
I'm interested in Formula Vee for a couple of reasons - 1st is an affinity for VW's (am currently driving a 2008 R32) and my best friend in PA has been hill-climbing a Formula Vee for a number of years now.
Racing budget isn't huge - was hoping to find something serviceable with trailer and possibly some spares for under $10k. Would like to try to attend driving school early next year and then see if I can get on track without totally embarrassing myself nor being a menace to anyone else out there.
I'd sure welcome the opportunity to meet the Formula Vee community at Infineon next month and will try to make the BBQ I've read about. In the meantime, I welcome any advice you may have on where to find a reasonable car and trailer.
Thanks, Don K.

Take a look at the classified section. There are a number of cars available. Including my Tsunami. I also have a D13 available. Even if you don't buy one of my cars, feel free to contact me at saslow(at)comcast(dot)com. I am happy to help in any way.

Don,
Welcome to the group. We usually paddock as a group. There are a few cars that are available, but it will depend on which one you feel comfortable in.

Hi Don
Look for a Viper, only 5 built - one is gone, so there is 4 left. I got one here ind Denmark - Europé. Realy a nice car. My Viper will drive as a Historic Formula Vee.
But there is one for sale, built in to a Formula First. but it´s easy to convert back to a fv. Heres the ad: The Viper is one of five and built by Robert Negron in the San Jose area. He was a very successful Formula Vee racer in the 80s in these cars. A total of four were built. Two are currently raced in Northern California.
This car has the SCCA Log Books. The car was raced quite successfully in the early 90s by Robert Fazio and in the late 90 by Travis Sellers. Fazio qualified for and took the car the the SCCA National Runnoffs in 1996. The car broke and did not finish the race. In 2000, Sellers qualifed the car for the Runnoffs, but drove a friends car in the race. MUST SELL!!!!
Contact Jeff Pearson at jeffpearson2003@hotmail.com
Depending on the different ads, price are from 2800$ to 4000$
Regards
Thomas Wilken-jensen Denmark

Don,
Wow, you picked a great time to purchase a car, the prices are ridiculously low . There are several very fast cars available for around half of your budget.
I would recommend a Mysterian M2, M3, M4. There are many running in this area and spare parts are plentiful, which is especially important if you have a problem at the track, which you will eventually.

Thanks for all the great advice and help. I look forward to following up with each of you individually - and I look forward to getting down to Infineon to meet you personally if you're going to there in September. In the meantime, if you come across a Vee that you think might be interesting - feel free to contact me directly at donkrys68 at yahoo dot com.
Again, many thanks, Don K.
