Hey Guys,
Still got newbie questions - but thought a new thread would be appropriate. I have bought a car, and am in the process of getting it race ready. There is a VARA race May 1-2 here in Southern Cal that I had circled on the calender, but now that is feeling rushed. Can anyone give me a good suggestion for a different event, or even a track day I could participate in later in May? I am totally new to track racing, so I would need to go through ground school and everything else to race. This doesn't seem to be a problem with VARA, but it seems like all the SCCA schools are done for the year. Does this mean I can't get in an SCCA race until next year? I am able to travel all over CA, NV, AZ - I just wanna drive my new car!!!!

Hi Igino, Congrats on the new car. The San Francisco region driver's school is done for the year, but you should check with other SCCA regions in your area. Here is a link that will show you where they are, and who to contact: www.scca.org/divisions.aspx?div=spYou should also check with the SCCA about using your VARA license at road racing events. They might let you in, and if not, they should be able to tell you what else you need to do. As you are checking on other regions, you can check their schedules for other vintage events that your VARA license might qualify you for. Good luck. -Jim

Jim,
Thanks for the tip! I'll check this out. The rub is that if I don't make this May 2nd race, I wont even have a VARA license. The next VARA race is in Sept and I can't make it to that one, so its really until Oct. which seems like a long time to wait to get on a track!
Thanks! Igino

Called up the SCCA office and they said that the next school is in AZ in Nov, so that doesn't really help for this season. They also said Fast Lane Driving School would count for an SCCA license. But thats two thousand bucks! There's gotta be a different way right?

try looking at other vintage groups. CSRG is running this weekend at Infineon and will have 2 or 3 more events this year.

Thanks Dan - HSR West looks cool. I'll look into what it takes to get into one of these races.

Has anyone raced their Vee in an HSR West Race? It looks like they don't allow cars that currently racing in any other groups.

I don't believe that Ed Swart currently has a classification for vees in HSR-West. I'd shoot him an email to make sure, but I've never seen anything smaller than a Ford at an HSR event.
