Gents and Gals Note that in order to get a double regional into two days something have to give--in this case it is track time. The practice will be 20 mins, only one qual (20 mins) and each race 25 mins. Sorry for the bad news but I guess if we valued track time, we would be driving Miatas and entered in 2 different race groups. dave please remember to use your mirrors, there may be a faster car on the track with you (doubtful, but it could happen)

Starting positions for both races determined by first and only qualifying session. 90 Min of track time and all of this for only $425.00 Just under $5.00 per minute of track time...... What a deal. :-(

I understand the reason behind cutting out a few minutes off of each session to pack in all of the different groups within 2 days, but I don't get cutting out the 5th session (in this case it would be the second qualifying session). Last year when they first tried the double regional within two days at Thunderhill they were able to get everyone 5 sessions, why not at Laguna? Is it just to simplify things? A lot of drivers complained about how crammed the schedule was? Or maybe there is something I don't know that is at hand? if so feel free to fill me in

I think SCCA needs more classes. That will solve the problem.

weather forecast is good-high 60's with mostly sun. Don't forget the group 4 driver's meeting Also, the RDC is giving "drive-arounds" for new drivers and also experienced drivers who would like a slow tour of the track to discuss the various aspects of each turn. Open to all drivers even if you don't belong to the RDC. dave

Dave - Do you know when the "drive-arounds" are happening? It's not listed on the event schedule. Thanks.

In case Dave doesn't get you a response right away, I heard that this happens before the first session goes out on track. Who you would ask, and where could they be found would also be important to find out. I would think that the helpful folks at Registration would be able to direct you.

Is it for drivers only? It would make my 5 year olds year to get a drive around Laguna.

The info was included in the e-mail yesterday from the Region titled "Acceptance Letter" Under section 5: 5. At 8:10 am on Saturday morning, the Racing Drivers Club (RDC) will hold an Orientation Drive-around Lap for first-time drivers at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It will leave from the Start/Finish flag stand in Pit Lane and since space is limited, it is for drivers only. RDC will have a passenger car for drivers to ride in. The drive-around will be conducted by an experienced driver who will be discussing the typical driving line and be available for questions during the lap.
Sorry Brian, the stewards are allowing only RDC members to conduct the drive arounds. I will have track maps and a printed narrative to accompany the drive around I conduct.
Don't forget the group 4 driver's meeting on Saturday. dave

Congrats to Jim Petrek for the double win and a great pair of 2nds for Mitch Young. Unfortunately, the Sat. race was cut short and finished under the yellow. The racing at the front was great. Jim, Gavin and Mitch really had a great battle. On Sat, broken shifting linkage cost Gavin a chance to stay with the battle and Jim got a big lead that held through to the end. Mitch, Brian and myself had a great duel as well. Once again, it seemed that lapping traffic determined some finishing positions.
During the driver's meeting, Mike Smith told us that group 4 was the worst group for violating the yellow flags and that the workers were not willing to go on a hot track with us. Guys, that costs us green laps. While we all were convinced that it was someone else's fault, I was amazed on how little communication is taking place on track. We were taught to put our hands up to warn the driver's behind us that something is up. Whether it was a yellow or having to slow or going into the pits we put our hands up. Didn't really see a lot of that and it's really important since many of us can't see over the car in front of us. Several times during the races, I pointed faster cars by only to have them pass on the opposite side! Just seconds before the club fords took 7 minutes out of our race with an accident, one of them, after being pointed by, put two in the dirt to pass me. One final comment, a big shout out to the guy who ran the famous Bob Lobenberg ADF Ford out of Neil Porter's shop. You had to start from the back and it was exciting to see that fantastic car, but it would have been a lot better if you hadn't broke up the vee race two days in a row with your energetic charge to the front.
It was really great to run Laguna after so many years and I hope to make the next event there.

Brian;
So that WAS Lobenberg's car?? I was wondering. The driver of that car seemed to really know the car and from the corkscrew seemed pretty clean as he worked his way through the pack.
RE The Driver's meeting and the incident at the corkscrew: After what Mike said about Group 4, which really should be addressed guys, the workers still came out onto a hot track and worked like pros to clean up the carnage. If it had been earlier in the race you guys would have gotten more laps due to their efforts. It reminded me how lucky the drivers in this region are to have such a professional crew backing them up.

It was really great to run Laguna after so many years and I hope to make the next event there. So a Ford broke up the FV race two days in a row?!?!? Big surprise... Not as exciting up north for the double in Seattle. Typical SCCA volunteers (God bless them and their lazy mentality (hey, we're volunteers, we'll get to it when we are ready)) took 20 minutes to pick up two broken FV's so we finished under the yellow when it should've taken 10 min. Boo to lazy volunteers (love the volunteers...hate laziness as some sort of excuse). Dennis 1, Saslow 2, me 3. Then on Sunday, great racing me, Saslow and Big Bob Posner. Classic FV battle for 20 min. My clutch broke and I could only watch them pull away. Saslow won his first national as he drafted dad at the line. First national win for Steve. 'Bout time too!
