Notice the cost of Laguna is also high (entry fee and track rental). The Region gives the drivers a break at Thill, but each event needs to "pay its own way". Hence the higher cost for a National race- fewer entries and National charges a higher sanction fee.
The two day regionals cut out the 2nd qualifying and shorten the races to 25 minutes instead of 30 AND eliminate one race group by moving the cars into different groups. The SFR could do a "full" regional in 2 1/2 days, but the tracks charge for a full day anyway. dave

Thanks Dave for the details. I forgot that there's an additional qualifier and 5 more minutes. So that means that 30 (20+5+5) minutes more will cost roughly $140 plus lodging. On the national side, the sanction fee difference is minor: $300. Insurance a hair higher. The tow money element raises the fees as well.
What most people don't know is that we get Laguna at a discount from supplying workers for pro events. SF region has always charged a premium for Laguna in spite of this discount. Now it's shown on the financials as "Worker revenue". Which I suspect isn't really cash flow but an accounting entry. Sorry guys all the years as an accountant are sneaking back into my head. The surplus generated at Laguna funds worker programs, incentives and the bottom line.

If my math is correct, that's 40 cars! It will be a very full field-let's all remember to use those two objects on either side of the car that show what is behind your car. (better known as "mirrors")
