As a result of the Formula Vee driver survey relating to tires for 2014, the consensus was that there should be two classes for all events this year. The two classes will be FV and FVT. The rules for the classes which are included in the 2014 Supplementary Regulations, are as follows: 5. FORMULA VEE (Regional Races Only): There will be two classes for Formula Vees in 2014. It is anticipated that this rule will apply for 2014 only. FV - The General Competition Rules, Section 9.1.1.C will govern tire choices. FVT - Formula Vee Spec Tire: FVT drivers must use American Racer tires, compound 132, by McCreary to qualify, race and/or receive regional points, trophies, and victory flag. Any FVT driver not using the required spec tire will be moved to the FV class. The Chief Steward may declare a rain race at least 30 minutes prior to a scheduled race start to allow competitors the choice of changing to rain tires if they wish. In addition, a rain race or qualifying session may be declared, if at least 30 minutes but no more than one hour prior to the race or session, a majority of the competitors who posted a practice or qualifying time sign a petition declaring it a change-in-condition race and present it to the Chief Steward. The change in condition applies only to the designated session and not to any other session. If you have any questions about the rules, you may contact Mike Smith, Competition Director – msmith@provistateam.com - or Gary Pitts, Regional Executive – gary365@aol.com
Anyone think, who would have voted for this? Can anyone decipher whether you can qualify on Hoosiers for the Runoff?

Since only national classes can go to the runoffs the spec class FVT? will not qualify. Don't know if someone asked to be able to run spec tires since they can anyway or if the SF board was being careful, but this will be a separate class. Anyone notice the entry fee increase? $575 at TH and $595 at Laguna? Am I the only one that is getting spammed on this forum?

I've asked Mike Smith, How does that work for those trying to qualify through the regional path? The rule only allows points running as a FVT. This gives a distinct advantage to those running the conference path. The tire rule is the same and the cost and testing makes for a cost increase. Our region seems to not aid national, now major running racers. The majority wanted a one year exemption and most in the class are trying to run in the runoffs. Why this rule, it changes nothing.
I've not gotten a response from him, it was sent a few days ago. Is he on vacation?

I apologize to everyone for all the confusion that the two paths to the runoffs has caused. The BOD wanted to provide an alternative to running majors through a divisional path and rather than making things easier to follow, it's made things more complicated. We're all used to regional and national racing since we've been doing it that way for years. First of all, the regional or divisional path to the runoffs only includes classes that are considered national classes. That's the way it's always been. Regional only classes like FVT or SMT do not qualify. If someone wants to run AR's all year, AND STILL QUALIFY, they will have to run in FV and NOT FVT. It probably goes without saying, if you run AR's against Hoosiers you'll be hard pressed to be competitive enough to win a race, but that doesn't mean that you can't still qualify.
