Lately there has been a discussion on the cost of an affordable, dependable brake shoes. I was notified by a very reliable, experienced FV driver of an option. As of this time they have been tested at Thunderhill, Sears Point, Laguna Seca, and Portland. The results have been positive. I will keep updating as more results are presented. Just a little info these shoes can be purchased around $20.00 per axle, they have shown no signs of fade or excessive drum wear. They seem to last well and do not require constant adjustment.
This is one comment: The brakes were good. Maybe just a hair weaker than the Porterfield. I tested Thursday with the Caracal which has Porterfield. I could brake a bit later with it but it's always stopped better than the Vortech. It probably wasn't going as fast as the Vortech either,so the braking distance was probably very close. The Vortech linings diffinitely have a harder feel and adjust better. I haven't touch them this weekend yet. I didn't notice any fade although Portland is not a hard track on brakes. I had no brake lockups. I probably won't get to look at them for a couple of weeks. I have to find what's wrong with the Caracal next week since I plan on running it at Canada. I'm guessing that the best braking with them is yet to come since they seem hard and probably aren't fully seated, especially the rears.
