OK so yes we all have a stack of slotted wheels sitting in our side yards or trailers and they ARE available again...but for how long. I think the class did itself a disservice by not considering adopting a "Spec" alloy wheel rather than just finding a way to buy the old wheels at an increased cost. The "retro guy" in me likes the look of them (reminds me of the old PORSCHE racecars of the late fifties).
At the same time we could have approached EMPI, Centerline or one of the other Hot VW parts manufacturers and worked out a deal for some sort of SPEC alloy wheel. This way we avoid the slippery slope that the FFord guys slid down when they allowed alloy wheels, we assured a good steady supply wheels that will NOT go out of manufacture in the near future and (dare I say it again) we once again make the cars more attractive to new (younger) drivers.
