I say if you want disc brakes build a first. I have to be on the side with Brian. I sent in my no to the board.

The class does not need to evolve. Any changes to the rules, other than to address supply issues, will not increase participation. Why change something that is still working? FV is the 3rd most popular class in FV. One of the main reasons for that is rule stability. If you want to "evolve" your FV, there is Formula FIrst. The spec tire you guys have done helped. But short of convincing our "allies" in the Mid-East to lower the cost of oil, racing will continue to diminish to include only the very wealthy.

Here is a note from the sidelines from someone who used to race and has attempted a disc brake conversion on a link pin front end.
Two sets of bearing later and it didn't fit. I have no clue why.
Also, the wieght penalyu for the disc brakes when all is said and done is pretty d**n big. Bill Bonow pointed out to me that in the old Gold Cup they cross drilled the rotors NOT for cooling but to drop the WEIGHT OF THE ROTORS.
Rear Brake conversion is pretty much a no brainer, albeit with a little machine work on the side but nothing painful.
Formula Vee has been a part of my entire life and, as most of you know, I have pretty strong opinions when I get started but since I no longer race I will not voice those here.
I will say though that ENTROPY works and is a terrible thing.

I think most of you "lefties" have seen that I am a BIG proponent of First back in the Midwest. Marty/Blake, FV is NOT the place to make changes. Disc Brakes are not the magic pill and will not help grow the class. It will most likely damage a very stable (Nation wide) class by chasing away existing drivers with new unneeded expenditures.
The proper thing if you wish to test progress is do it in a separate class. That separate class will live or die on its own merit, not goof up the longest living formula class in existence.
Brian,
No "e" on the end of Georg ;D

.....OR we could allow controlled evolution (and hence cost) towards something like first rather than let FV die on the vine.
If you guys are content to let the class slowly die as drivers retire and new drivers go to first, well then not allowing disc brakes is the correct move.
On the other hand if you would like to see a resurgence of fv type racing lets have fv evolve over time towards something like ffirst. There are many ways of making such a migration palatable to all.

There are many ways of making such a migration palatable to all. I'd bet more than one would involve firearms and/or various forms of torture ;D +GF+

...and hordes of Zink drivers with pitchforks and torches.
Trust me, Geoge and I have spent our share of time in burning winmills surrounded by any Vee drivers!

In the latest Fastrac the CRB notes indicated a significant number of letters against this proposal. Don't know if that means the death of the idea but I think the board is reluctant to change anything without overwelming support from the members.
