There is a great deal of discussion going on about the run group for the National. Who is running? The Regional is not affected by this. Who is running? Anyone doing both? I wished they had asked us.

Team Elf will be running in Both the Regional and the National. I will be doing the regional and confirmed yesterday that I will be renting the Team Mysterian to National Driver Ethan Shippert.
Also, for those who know him, that weekend is Nick's 10th Birthday. Suggestions for festivities are welcome. Saturday afternoon we will be taking him over to the Monterey Bay Aquarium for special festivities but maybe something after that?

The National This race had an unusual start. There was a 3 way split start. The formula 500's both, followed by the SRF's and then the FV's. We only concern ourselves with the FV's. The race was very competitive at the front with Colin Cross, Skip Streets, and Brian McCarthy all swapping positions. I did observe a very smooth pass at turn 2 by Colin as he went inside both Brian and Skip. The perfect late brake going deeper into a corner pass. The next two were Ian Sweeney and Quinn Posner, these two stayed together and finished this way. Unfortunately there was a little mishap that occured right in front of me that I did not see. I was told later that a SRF had gone off course ( actually every lap a SRF or two went off between turn 9 and 11) and brought dirt onto the track that Marjorie Lundberg did not see and spun and collected Bob Posner. This allowed the ever lasting FV driver Al Olinger to finish in the 7th position. Unfortunately The love child of Brian and an unspoken woman, Michael Bagnell was experiencing new car bugs and did not have a very fun time, as he had to fight his car and those unmentionables (SRF's). The winner was Brian McCarthy with Skip Streets 2nd and Colin Cross 3rd. I seem to have forgotten about Ethan Shippert, the transplant from the midwest. He rented his ride from Martin and did very well for himself, sorry do not remember where he finished.
The Regional
This was a first for our Board administrator. Due to circumstances beyond our control Martin Cameron was on the pole. I'm sure a picture will appear on his web site soon. Unfortunately for Marty the lead was gone before the first corner as Don Manthe got the jump on him and assumed the lead. Martin's woes did not end there as he spun in turn 2 and was at the back of the pack. Don was driving very well and built a comfortable lead over the rest of the FV's. It seems that the trouble Don had at the last race is still with him. This might explain the spin he experienced between turn 9 and 10. This allowed almost the entire field to pass him and he had to battle his way back up the field. The best part of the race was back for position 5 through 9, Don Manthe, Al Olinger, David Schrady, Michael Patton, and Martin Cameron. The race winner will be heading to the run off's Ian Sweeney, Quinn Posner 2nd, Ron Wake 3rd, Bob Posner 4th. Gus Smith drove steady in his RCA coming in 10th. Michael Bagnell had further problems as he came by the front straight dropping oil and had to retire. Hope to see you at Sears.

"Circumstances beyond our control"
CONTROL WAS WHAT IT WAS ABOUT BABY!!!! (That and a grappling hook on Ron Wake's rear bumper). I won't post a picture of the start on my site but T-shirts will be available...along with a weather report reporting a cold snap improving a snow ball's chance in hell.
Ethan finished 7 in the end, losing the devision by a single point. He did report he had never had as much fun at a race before and we might see his smiling face more at events next year.
