or hurricane Moto GP if you prefer, is raging at Laguna Seca and leaving in it's wake acres of beach front property and relocating whole buildings. One things for sure, if you go off track now you are sure to get stuck, turning limited race time into following the pacecar.

Well if you watched the Moto GP race yesterday you got a look at the "new" Laguna Seca. Make no mistake the track has changed. Pavex, the paving contractor did an absolute lousey job as the track was litteraly falling apart under the tires of the bikes. There are new potholes, bumps and ripples all over the track.
Lets hope Pavex will do the right thing and fix the problems quickly...

On another thread, Sorry could not find it, the question was raised if any one had driven the track... Just got off it today. From the top of the cork screw thru the bottom of T9 is very bumpy. A ford driver today crashed going into T5 I'm sure Peter Nosler will have more on that in the meeting. Hospitilized but in good shape was the word when he left the track. Car looked toast under 4 laps of double yellow....This was a VINTAGE RACE...
Safety First...none of us are going into pro racing...2 or 3 points as I see it is not worth it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What happened? Did they repave the whole track? Is there something special about the surface, or is it just new? Is it for better or worse?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, repaved and then repaired after pavement came up. Lots of speculation on why they had problems, one being they allowed a historic group on track when the pavement was curing.
They also cut away the hill on the inside of T6, you can see all the way to the top of the hill before the Corkscrew.
I also heard a rumor that they may resurface again but have to decide who should pay for it (ie paver or SCRAMP). This has not been confirmed though.
The sad thing is, there was nothing wrong with the old surface...oh well.
