Subject: Paul's Back Surgery
Hi, Sherry,
Paul had back surgery on 1/31. It was supposed to be "minimally invasive" with just an overnight in the hospital - maybe that is true if you are 25 years old and in bodybuilder shape! The purpose was to remove bone spurs on L4 and L5/S1 to open up the spinal sac in those two areas and let the nerves float free once again. The myelogram/CT really showed how pinched things were. Dr. says Paul has been "decompressed" and that should help the pain in the long run. He's had a miserable week living on Percocet and Valium and I think he is about two days behind in suggested recovery time, but he keeps plugging away and can be left on his own during day hours. Of course if he had known that there would be this much pain, he probably never would have done it. But if doctors really told you what it is going to be like to get on your feet again, they wouldn't do any business!
Since he will be home recuperating from 2-4 weeks, I'm sure he would enjoy calls or cards from SFR folks. Would you be so kind as to let people know as I'm sure you have readily accessible email lists for Chiefs, Board Members, and maybe SRF drivers, as well as SFR site access. I will be notifying some folks directly but duplication doesn't matter. I think his goal will be to come to Training Day 2/18, but I will be putting some crew members on alert to cover just in case that is too optimistic.
People are also welcome to email to me and I'll print them out for Paul.
Thanks for your help! Karen Lamm
