Today's regional at T-Hill had a Yellow Flag ending due to an incident. Larry Bacon launch himself at the Eagle's nest, from my perspective he seemed to have lost his brakes and hit the inside berm which launched him into the air and came down on the outside berm which put him back up in the air and spinning. I saw 2 tires fly off but 3 came off. He landed upside down at the bottom on the inside of the hill. The safety crew did a great job of getting to him and letting us know that he was alert and had movement. He is staying at a hospital tonight with his wife at his side. All of us send our best wishes to him and hope for a quick recovery.

Bruce, please keep us posted. I know I speak for the Ford drivers in wishing Larry a quick recovery also. Brought back the bad memories of Sears in 2001 when Tim Barlow passed. My wife was watching from pit lane as Larry was getting his frequent flier miles and was very, very concerned due to the severity of the mishap. dave

Re Marty's post above: what a blessing that Larry survived that flight with so little ill effect. We were watching from the observation floor in the club house when Margarette said, "Look at that! A car just went end over end at least three times!" I looked up from my chart in time to see a huge cloud of dust and two wheels flying across turn 6. I understand that Larry recently had a taller roll hoop installed in his car. Very smart move. We are fortunate he is still with us.
Another subject from the same race: Whoever organized the split start doesn't seem clear on the concept. The split start is designed to let the two different classes race as much as possible without the two intermixing. When the Vees turned onto the start/finish straight for their green flag the FF's were coming out of turn 6. By the third lap the Swifts were lapping the Vees. And when the first yellow flew the restart was a gaggle of the front Vees and Club Fords. Suggestion: At the next Regional let's have the pace car lead the FF's and the Vee pole sitter pace the Vees and keep them about 100 yards behind the Fords (Blake? Ron? Peter?). I do believe having a proper split start will let us all have a better race. Yours for better racing and more fun!

I talked to Larry today. He is sore but he will be visiting us in three weeks at Infineon. He wants to thank everybody for all the help and really appreciates all the help in getting his stuff back home. As far as the split start it was a mess but I tyalked to Peter Nosler last night and if the same kid gets the pole again he and ever other FF driver will work on the kid so he does not take off like that, so far he is 2/2 and both races ended up being a disaster.

Mack, The GCR spells out split start procedure. The pace car leads the second "wave". The second wave should be at least a couple of turns behind so that the "dust can settle" before their start. As Blake points out, the kid, Tom, who has been on the pole twice start the pace lap "at speed". I thought the start of of race was boing to be a "no start" due to the spread out field and the high rate of speed. I was in 2nd gear (~70 mph) when the green flag was thrown. I was telling my crew over the radio it was going to be waved off when the green flew. I agree that in our case (SFR group4), it is better to have the Vees between T13 and T14 @ Thill. See my post in Thill regional May 20-21 dave
