West Coast FV racers, as you know the SF region has made Formula Vee one of the featured classes for 2007.
In addition to a special race weekend, FV will have a special FV/FF test day at Thunderhill (at a very reduced rate), a feature article in the wheel the edition before the feature race and special recognition at the awards banquet. Now to top it all off Formula Car Magazine will cover the West Coast racing scene and make a special FV Cup sponsored by Formula Car Magazine. Below are e-mails I have had with Stephen Saslow regarding a west coast FV series. To make this sucessful we will need people to travel up north to the Rose cup or Seattle. Please read Stephen E-mail to find out more about the series. Also read the e-mail from Rob Howden.
If you have a car now is the time to eliminate all the excuses and show up for the races! We have not had this much interest since the Formula Vee Racing Association. This your chance to show the region FV is here to stay!
Stephen Saslow e-mail: Spoke with Rob Howden. We are thinking about doing the Regional Race of the two Portland Reg/Natl's. As well as the July 14th-15th Regional at Thunderhill, as well as one of the races (probably 9/2) of the Regional at Infineon.
It would be a 4 race series. Double points for anyone who travels to opposing region for race.
Best 3 of 4 results.
Applicable Spec Tire rules would apply.
What do you think?
In your minds, how many Cal guys do you think will travel north? Will the Thunderhill and Portland Rose Cup races be the primary crossover events?
Take care,
Rob Howden e-mail:
Hi guys,
I just wanted to touch base regarding the development of the new FCM Pacific Formula Vee Challenge Cup. I’m very pleased to see this develop, as it will give me a perfect venue to start promoting FV racing on the West Coast. We’ll do what we can to get as much coverage as possible, so the big thing for us will be getting photos from the events.

This looks like fun!
A couple of questions.... 1) Which race is eligible at the Rose Cup Regional or national? 2) Are any of the race weekends Doubles? 3) "Applicable spec tires" = American racers for all events???

Sounds like alot of fun!
Any chance if we get a big enough turnout to somehow limit the fords' ability to wreck the races down in CA?

The spec tire is the AR. The regional race of the Rose Cups will be the FCM Cup race We're hoping to have such large turnout, that we can do these again next year with a dedicated group. So here is the challenge..... Pack up your trailer, come run the Rose Cups.... Heck, run both the National and the FCM race if you come all this way.... Then, we'll see where everyone stands and let's all show up in Seattle and battle out the championship!!! We had 12 cars at the Seattle race last year, and that was just all local guys. We could easily top 20-25 cars with good participation. It would be like a blast from the past!!!!! Also, if anyone can help get some contigencies, let me know. I have approached SR Racing and would like to get a couple others. Anyone have any contacts within American Racer? Maybe we could get some tires for the champion, etc. Lastly, let's all promote the heck out of this thing. Twist the arms of your fellow racers who have garaged cars.... I have posted the schedule on my website under race schedule www.tcrmotorsports.comWe should see a press release from Formula Car Magazine shortly. Thanks Blake and Brian for helping me with this.

Forgot to answer one other question from Ian:
2- None are doubles. Originally I wanted to do 4 doubles, two in each region - but none would work. There are no double Regionals in Seattle (only a double national) nor any double's in Portland.
It didn't seem fair to schedule one double in NorCal and two singles in PNW.
Next year, if the schedule pans out better, we would like to have 4 or 6 double events on the schedule. But we needed to start somewhere.

This sounds really great. It really interests me because I dont have the time to run a full season but still want a chance at the winners braggin rights.
More race weekends would actually turn me off...food for thought for next year.

Okay everyone, FCM is putting together a story to announce the series. If you plan to attend any of the races, can you drop me a note here: saslow@comcast.net
Please include your car make, number and engine builder. Any pictures you may have that could be used in a story would be appreciated too.
Also, if you think there is a chance that you will be traveling to the other region to earn double pointsfor 1 or both of the "away" races, please not that too.

One more thing: Does anyone have contact info for a photographer who could cover the Laguna and/or the Thunderhill races?

Would you guys allow FST to race as well in the FCM races, much like back East? It could sure help build the race group entry numbers.

This is beginning to sound good. A mild correction--the mid-June Race at PIR is called "Rose Cup" races--only one cup for the winner of the annual rose cup race. Thanks for putting this together, guys.

Stephen,
Here is a list of NorPac FST's that I understand are very close to "race ready" condition.
Bob Sepulveda's Stinger Brian Swanson's Mysterian M5 Blake Tatum's Crusader
There are more, but these three are at the 90% plus completion stage. There are two Evolution FST's down in LA (Lou LeBlanc and Eric Boghossian), but that's a long way away.
As you said, you gotta start somewhere.

WOW!!! What a response to this!!!! If you haven't already emailed me with your intent to participate, please do so.
If we can get at least 3 FST's out there, then let's have them run as well. Will they be attending the PNW races as well?
One more thing....does anyone have the skills to come up with a logo and a decal that we can all put on our cars? That would be a neat way to commemorate it....
