Bruce or anyone interested: We are in the process of going through the supps. If you want the the spilt start rules addressed then now is the time to write something up.

I'm going to the test day and will discuss the split start with those that are there. I will then send an e-mail to the board. Thanks for giving us a heads up on this.

This is the proposal I sent to the board members.
A minimum of 10 cars is required in both halves of the split start group for a split start, if this requirement is meet then a split start will occur. A request to not have split starts may be submitted to the Chief Steward with Signatures from 50% of each half of the split start groups. The pace car may lead either group.
Reasons:
When the vote was taken at Laguna Seca a few years back, the majority voted for a split start (group 4) This allows a fair start for each group, not just the Formula Fords. Safety reason. (group 4) At Laguna with a full field, the start at turn 2 is a parking lot, with the leaders getting through and the whole of the 2nd group with a few exceptions having to wait it out. At Infineon the same at turn 4. The leaders usually catch up with the back markers about the same time if not sooner. The only advantage is the lead group gets a fair start and the next group doesn't. Eliminated the requirement of the signatures of the first 3 qualifiers of each group since each driver is an equal, no one vote more valuable than any other.
Those that are interested can send their opinion to the board.

This looks like a good start Bruce. Is Blake addressing this or do we all need to write to the board?

I am addressing this at the board level. If you want to send an e-mail to the board please do so otherwise how strong you feel about the issue will not be fully appreciated.

I'm with Blake, you need to write the Board and let them know how you feel. The more input they have will help them decide.

Blake,
Is there a group E-mail address for the board, or should we send a separate E-mail to each board member? I looked in the Wheel and only found separate addresses. Also, any hint about whether there will be special races for the larger groups like last year, and likewise special test days? I see that Thunderhill is already almost booked up for the year!
Thanks; and keep up the great work.

FV will again be a feature class. We will probably be able to work out a deal with the FF guys so the weekends we have a second race we can have just FV on one a just FF in the other thats if there are enough events with a second race. Additionally this is the 45th anniversary year for FV we should make our feature weekend the same as the 45th anniversary weekend. If Stephen Saslow is going to do the Formula Car west Coast Challenge this year it needs to be the same weekend as the feature race. There will also be a special test day for FV, FF, SFR, but I can not tell you the date because we are still working on it. If you go to the SFR SCCA web site there should be a group e-mail in which you can contact all the board members at the same time.

Ok my E-mail is off to the board.
Blake, can you give us a summary of the discussion once it is all done? Just curious about how it was handled and what was done. Thanks.

I just read the supps for '08 and basically there is no change. I know Blake said there would be split starts, but I still don't understand why 3 people has the power to over ride the group if they qualify in the top three positions. Are the top three qualifiers going to pay everyones expenses? There is no fairness or logic to this rule. I am not happy with the way the rules were written. This part of the supp really stinks.

Yea, this is a tough situation. Seems the region is giving itself a way out if it doesn't want a split start and I guess the FF board member wields a large but quiet stick. This region just has problems with putting the driver's satisfaction first on it's list.
