Derek Harding's actions at the turn 11 yellow flag were called into question during the Sun morning FF/FV race. I have check with multiple stewards on this incident.
The rules say that you can race to the yellow flag station. There should have been a standing yellow because the CF rolled into the gravel and was clear of track surface. Not the most dangerous situation. The dbl yellow was not out yet. It takes time for the dbl yellow to be called from race control. So, Derek was correct to move to the inside and race up to the corner station. The yellow at turn 11 controlled the field for less than 15ft. You cleared the plane of the accident very quickly. Almost to short a distance to allow a pass under the yellow if you tried.
After clearing the accident at 11, he was free to race until he saw the dbl yellow at the starter stand. I was on pit row and the dbl yellow did not come out immediately at the starter stand. There was plenty of time to legally pass cars. All racing stops when you SEE the dbl yellow. There could be some judgement involved around this issue. He was maneuvering around a bunch a confused driver and not looking at the starer stand.
Regardless, no one should have gone around Derek after the dbl yellow at the starer stand, even if they though they had been wronged. That was clearly passing under the yellow! But no harm, its just a for fun Vee race....
