At the Sears race there were a few drivers that ran on Hoosiers and were scored. Who is responsible for checking the tires? I know of one driver who got off the track early and tried to DQ himself, but was ignored at tech.

I haven't seen it done for a long time. At the national when i was on grid i told them the reason i was starting from the back was because i was on a non- series tires, i came in early and after the race i still had to go to the stewards to officially remove myself. It is not grids job to police us, i thought we decided as a group to take care of this. We are adults (well except for me when i act like a big kid) so we should all use the honor system.

When we had to race on the tires we qualify on grid checked the tires. Nowadays when a driver races on the non spec tire either he/she should notify grid or a fellow competitor should let grid know. It is important that someone from grid notify T/S so the driver does not receive points or trophies. After the fact you may run into trouble because the car might not be pulled into impound. Once the car makes it to the pits there is no way for the stewards to know for sure that the car raced out of compliance.
