And who says we have no voice? POWER TO THE PEOPLE! With the great job Bruce F did getting the Vee drivers signatures and me getting all but 2 Fords and one F5 (36 out of 39 drivers for Sundays race), I think our evil plan will work. Chuck R (FF14) and I presented the petition to Mike Smith and he was very surprised and pleased with the team work displayed. So here is how I envision this working:
We will have a combined practice (FV, F5, FF, CF) like always and then our normal split qualifying (FV, F5 and then CF, FF). But instead of having a normal grp 4 race and then a grp 4 bonus race, we will only get one race (giving up a bonus race). BUT, grp 4 will still have the 2 races, only one will be for just Fords and the other will be Vees and F5s. The schedule remains the same, the workers still have the same hours to work, no squeezing in anything. Simple as pie.
Don't forget, the June race @ Thill (6/23), the Vees will get two races. The regular grp 4 race (with the Fords and F5s) and then the Feature race with ONLY Vees (no F5s even). Let's get a big turn out to put on a good show and prove that the Vees deserve the favorite class status (only 5 classes were choosen based on car counts).
A big thanks to Ron W and Bruce F for helping me pass out the gas cards. And a thanks for the donations to make the program work. All we need is 25 drivers to give $10 bucks for the five $50 gas cards and we break even. A gal of race fuel is $6.50 @ Thill so $10 bucks won't even get you 2 gals. Do I sound like Dave Vodden? ;D

Guys and Gals, at the last board meeting the idea of Fords and Vees separating during weekends in which there is a second race was brought up. The board wants to make sure the entire group is in favor of this idea. So read Dave Jalen's post in this thread and respond if you are for or against. Also if there are current drivers who run regionals that are not part of this board let me know who they are. I want everyone's opinion.

Blake Can you give email addresses so we can respond? I would have thought the 36 signatures would have been enough. It would be great to have the FCM race be a Vee only race-maybe move the F5s to the Ford group? dave

I think it is a fine idea. Quality over quantity works for me.

update from Peter Nosler: "2. At the last regional on Sunday most everyone signed a petition to alter the schedule for Regional #6 July 14-15 at Thunderhill. Instead of a second race for group 4 the petition proposed that one of the two group 4 races be just for FF/CF and the other race be just for FV and F500. This was presented to the regional board and can happen provided that there are no significant objections from competitors planning to be at the July event. If the board hears no serious complaints regarding this change it will happen. Mike Smith will (in front of witnesses) flip a coin to see who races in the morning and who gets the last race of the day slot."
So, If no one complains, we will have the separate races. dave

I know who should race in the am. The class with the most out of region drivers. Regardless of the if it is FV or FF, we all have to get home for work. So, why not benefit the largest group of out of region drivers?

The coin flip was held on Saturday, with the fords getting the morning race and the vees getting the afternoon race.

Copied from Tom Duncan's ApexSpeed.com post:
TO ALL FORMULA VEE DRIVERS #1: If you don't already know please note the FF's you run with are now on a Goodyear 430 spec tire that is harder than the 160, 175, and 250 compounds used commonly in the past. Some of the FF's you will driving with will not behave in exactly the same way they used to. In some cases braking distances/characteristics may be affected as well as lateral grip and speed in corners.
TO ALL FORMULA VEE DRIVERS #2: I was aghast to see the Spec Miata group scheduled to qualify after us this last weekend took the space you should have been given on the pre-grid, making you essentially having to line up in the gutter. I spoke to a steward about it later and he referred me to the grid marshal. She said part of the problem was the Vee drivers got to the grid so late with so few and the Spec Miatas so early with so many, they just had to put the Miatas somewhere. Seems to me the grid should be secured for whatever group is scheduled to be there, but practical concerns prevailed. She did say that every effort would be made in the future to ensure this did not happen again, but the presence of the Vees at a 'reasonable time' prior to release would go a long way to making sure of that.
