Dad went into surgery about 12:30pm California time. He will be in there for about 3 to 4 hours. He will then go into recovery for about two more hours. I believe sometime after 6pm tonight I should be able to give you an update on what they did and what the doctor feels the outcome will be.

Ok the doctor just came out and said that dad did just fine. It was about a three hour surgery and Doctor Carver said he was happy with the way it went. He did say it would be about six months to a year before he be able to do very much . As far as him racing he says he'll really have to think about that one. He's concerned about re-injury of his back again. He's at Salinas Valley Memorial and will be going to a room on the fourth floor in about an hour or so.

Nope Dr. Chainsaw couldn't be located.
Ok here's the scoop from the front desk this morning on dad. He did pretty well last night. They made him roll over on his side so they could check for drainage from the work that Dr. Carver did yesterday. (That must have been an interesting site to see) They're going to have him walk a little once the physical therapist gets there.
Anyway he is in good spirits both of his doctors have been in to check on him today. Dr. Carver came in first and said they had to do a little more work on him than they had first thought but he was going to be ok. He told him that he would be in on Monday to check on him because he actually was going to take the weekend off. Then came Dr.Dacus which is both dads and my doctor. He came in just to check up on him. He was very happy with dad's progress.
Before Dr. Dacus left dad told him that he was going to have to be content with building cars and helping me with mine at the track. I know it is not what he wants to do but he also realizes that it's time. I really do look forward to his help with the car. So closes another chapter in the the life of my dad. As I told him he has nothing to be sorry for he has done great and to be able to do this at the age of 83 is a great accomplishment and he should be very happy about it.

Today Saturday dad is ding ok but a little sore. His spirits are good so that is really good. They took the drain out of his back today and removed something else. Dr. Kazmer told him he woild be there until Tuesday so we'll see where we go from there.
Isn't it kind of ironic your parents take care of you and then you find yourself taking care of them. I'm not complaining at all.

Sitting at o'hare waiting to head home from the Runoffs and just saw this. I had no idea Al was going in for this. Let him know the Posners don't believe that quitting racing crap for a minute. With a little recovery time I could see him back. It's just his personality!

Dad had a little mishap at Thunderhill in March and has been really sore ever since. He had back surgery in 2000 and has a plate in his back. He broke some vertebrae loose right above it when he went off at turn nine. This put pressure on his back and causing his hands to go numb and he had trouble holding onto stuff. The doctor that did this surgery is the same one from 2000 and he advised dad that he needed to quit racing. Our regular doctor told him the same thing so he made a decision to help me and do construction on cars only.
Also watched the race yesterday and was very sorry to see you and Don out of it so fast.
