What will happen to our cars numbers next year? Are the track workers going to tell the difference between FF & FV and have duplicate #'s? Seems unlikley. My #77 is not "owned" by a ford, but could I still lose it to a Vee driver with more years? Gus

Gus;
You ran enough races last year to reserve yourself a permenant number. Go to the region's website and fill out the form, remember we are in Group 4 now, and submit it.

Good question, Gus.
So what IS the deal with #'s when 2 different classes run together? What WILL happen when a FF and FV have the same numbers?
Just trying to figure out what #'s I will have available to use. Or do I just have to bring black tape to the track?

Since the Vees are rolling into the Ford Run Group the Fords will have senority. Also to qualify for a permenant number you have to have run a minimum of 3 races in the previous year with the number you request.

So in other words, a FF and a FV cannot have the same #? I'm not even concerned with permanent #'s, which is why I mentioned bringing black tape Tom

The GCR does not allow two cars in the same run group to have the same number. It also does not allow the addition of a "0" in fronta number, as in "01" or the addition of an "X" like they do in the oval track world.
Just the rules we play by.
I would also be careful about thinking you can just use tape for numbers as the timing and scoring crews have become quite picky about contracting colors and stroke width.

Thanks Marty! So if you were me, you couldn't yet apply for a permanent #, and you were going to your first race in April, what # would you pick from and how would you place a # on your car and with what BEFORE the race. Just for the fun of it, let's say I picked #59. Bought some neat #'s and plastered them on my car. Then I came to the track and found that some guy named Der Elf already had the #'s What would you do? Electrical tape? What is my solution? Try to talk Der Elf out of running?? ;D Tom

Gus, I hope I didn't mess with your thread. If so, let me know and I will remove and start another one.

You list your car number on your entry form. If you have a permanent number, there is usually never a problem. If not, and someone has your car number and enters first, SCCA will assign you a number for that race. You can also list alternative number choices in case your number is already taken by someone else.

I usually enter with a single digit and have a number one before or after as my alternative numbers. i.e. 5, 15, 51. I find making one's within my artistic skills.

OK, this is getting better So how about this picture. Forget about permanent #'s for me, that is not possible at this point. So basically, it sounds like a crap-shoot as to whether I will get any of the numbers I select on my entry form. So let's just assume I will not get the # I want. WHAT DO I USE TO PUT #'S ON MY CAR? My car will have brand new paint. I can't imagine I 'guess' at some #, only to have to rip it off when I get to the track. Does anyone have any better ideas than electrical tape? Brian, you have put in your time and can hopefully get a single digit, after which you can put a 1. I am not so fortunate. The permanent single digit #'s listed for June 04 show 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9 for the FF's and 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9. So forget picking a # and adding a 1. Oh, I might get lucky, but I don't want to gamble I'm no longer concerned about getting a certain #. All I want to know is, what is the best way to apply, at the track, the # I get. I am hoping someone might have a tip or 2. Do I buy a whole bunch of vinyl #'s? That gets expensive. A stencil and paint? Tom

It is getting less and less a problem to talk me out of running.

Go to www.sfrscca.com and click onto permanent numbers and look over the group 4 and group 7 numbers. See which are not being used in either group and select a number. You may or may not get lucky. I was told that numbers were going to go to whoever has senority in the club and who has participated in the most races.

Bruce,
But what happens if I don't get lucky, what do I do with a number I already put on my car. How do I replace that? What do I replace it with?
