Heh hee...Kurt Built Brian's though. In the same way Colin Chapman was Lotus.
No disrespect meant Scott, your car was/is gorgeous and I wish you were still running it out here. There is a loooong stoy that goes along with the M5 you may not know...

Marty, no disrespect taken. One note though, Kurt built over half of my M5 so does that qualify for Colin Chapman status? Actually, Jim Lepetich built about half of my half for whatever that's worth.

Hmmm, maybe not Colin Chapman but I think you got a whole "Rob Walker" thing going on (preferred PRIVATEER, a term I always loved). Jim built half of half? Man now we are splitting frames! Jim does good work too, he built the gearbox I am putting into the new car... (wait...did I say that out loud?)

Marty/Scott, Have not checked this board for a while. You guys are both goofy. Butch Deer had the original M5 that was 100% built by Kurt. The only part of the car still in existance is the bodywork that got mounted on a M2 .

Out of curiosity though what Dry Sump pump are you guys using? Marty, Didn't see this post right away. We are using a VERY simple/cheap "off the shelf" Schadek two stage pump. It's a staight bolt in, no mods. I'm using a stock sump plate and screen! Here is a generic link to the pump: secure.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=189 The pump is just over $110, you'll need a tank and hoses (to and from the tank). I use a stock VW oil cooler mounted on top of the block. Lost 30 degrees in oil temp immediatly after install. On a 90 degree day, the temp range 205 (solo) to 220 (multi-car draft).

<<Best JEDI Voice:>> "That is NOT the M5 you were thinking of...move along.
Thanks for the info on the pump. Are you using a Peterson Fluid Systems Oil tank?

Thanks Marty, I've been waiting to use this one: The Evolution uses a purpose built tank ($325)

Again, another M5 that never was raced. Maybe Mr Toad will have his together for the 2014 season.

Scott,
Sorry, didn't know we were talking specifically about M5's built by (or in part by) Kurt that have actually run competitive laps on a race track. In that case, you win the booby prize ;D
I have noticed that since this thread began, there are a couple more cars that are running in the bay area.

Bill:
OK, thanks...I am sitting in the VICTORY LANE ofice and saw that Stormtrooper...now I need to change shirts as coffee shot out of my nose.
Blake is getting his First ready to run again this season and Jeff Olinger is building up a brand new Crusader First as we speak. Mr. Toad's M5 has it's fate intertwined with how fast Terran goes. When he starts kicking his Dad's ass on the track I suspect the M5 will find it's way to the track.
Maybe SR should send some sponsorship Terran's way to speed that goal?

I've see a few glimmers of Tim Wall's car and have some very old photos of Blake's car. Any chance that anyone would have more current photos of either/both?

Hello All, The Stinger FST/FV racing program has not disappeared. I have undergone some major work on my back over the last 3 years and recovery has been long and difficult. I have gone from a wheel chair to walker to a cane and have just in the last three weeks been able to walk without any assistance ;D. I have also been through seven (7) other structural surgeries since 2000 . That said, we will be back soon picking up where we left off. Hopes are to make some test runs this winter and be racing with Blake here in Norcal in 2012 . Our driver is a surgeon and very busy, so our schedule may be limited. He hopes to retire soon at that time we will be getting after it, HARD. I will resume work on our second car and field two a.s.a.p. and look forward to getting NEW racers involved. In addressing the idea of displacing the FV class, i am totally against the idea (of FV dying) and enjoy the History, dedication and type of (VW) cars they are. I very simply Love VW motorsports and the business related to it. Our business plan is to recruit New Owners from the civilian ranks and fendered car class's. I spent 5 years crewing (formula cars)and reading all i could find about the FV's dating back to 1959 to learn about VW roadracing motorsport and talking to people and there are many more interested in FST than is being represented or spoken about here. The economy are careful consideration many folks are giving to spending money is also slowing things down. It will get better, and as it heals we will grow out here. We at Stinger Racing and VolSep Ent. will be going at all ahead flank VERY SOON. Stand by for heavy rolls while turning to port (the left side)... HHOOAAHHH Best Regards and God Bless, Robert (Bob) Sepulveda VolSep Ent. VSE Stinger Racing Ripon,Ca

Bob, Glad to hear that you are on the mend. Sounds like a long road. I too will have my new car ready for next season so with any luck we could have 4-6 FST's running at the same time. How cool will that be.

Scott,
Thanks for the note, the road feels long. It just got longer. This last weekend while racing his car at Buttonwillow raceway, My long time friend, teammate, mentor and brother (in Christ) Scott Buralli unexpectedly died behind the wheel of his car, while on his first lap. I am not sure how our development will move forward without Scott, but move forward it will. We are all still in shock here, and coming to grips with it all. A lot to take in when someone so young and seemingly healthy goes home too soon....Remember if you read this, to say what need's to be said to your loved one's while we all still have a chance. We had just spoke of next year and we were very excited about the prospects.
Respectfully, Bob Sepulveda
